The number of infected patients by this fungal infection reached 8000+ when the article is being written. This infection affects the skin, eyes, brain, and lungs of patients. This disease Mucormycosis or black fungus is life-threatening for patients who already suffering from Diabetes, HIV, and Cancers. Patients with severely immunocompromised or the COVID 19 patients who are treated with steroids and other anti-inflammatory drugs. This infection can badly affect the brain, eyes and lungs of the patient.

Due to the unclean and unhygienic activity of COVID 19 cured patients, they also get infected by this fungal infection. Where some experts blame the use of tap water in the flow meter of oxygen cylinders for spreading the black fungus infection in covid cured patients.

What are the symptoms of Mucormycosis (Black Fungus)?

Early signs and symptopms of mucormycosis includes

  • sinus pain or nasal blockage
  • redness around nose and eyes
  • coughing
  • shortness of breath
  • one-sided headache
  • swelling
  • toothache
  • loosing of teeth

Patients admitted in hospitals also suffer

  • blurred vision
  • discoloration or blackening of tissue on nose and cheeks and black lesions inside the mouth or discharge from nose

Prevention from Mucormycosis (Black Fungus)

Though it is a dangerous and fatal disease we can prevent ourselves from being infected of this fungee. Follow the steps given below to prevent yourself from the infection

  • Wear a mask whenever you are leaving your home and visit a dusty place.
  • Wear shoes
  • Wear long sleeves shirts and gloves if you are doing gardening
  • Maintain personal hygiene and keep yourself clean
  • hydrate regularly
  • if you are diabetics patient monitor your blood glucose level
  • reduce the uses of steroid drugs
  • discontinue the use of immune suppressant drugs

Follow the above mentioned steps and keep your self as much clean and hygienic possible.

Treatment of Mucormycosis (Black Fungus)

Liposomal Amphotericin B drug is used in the treatment of Black Fungus. 20 vials of this injection is required for the complete treatment. Each vials of this drugs cost almost ₹5000 to ₹6000.

Where all cases are treated with using the Liposomal Amphotericin B drug some complicated cases required surgery for complete cure from this disease.
